Wasted Leningrad Youth

The Vladimir Lenin All-Union Pioneer Organization, better known as the Young Pioneers, was a mass youth organization of the former Soviet Union. Young children were taught about the Ideology of communism and about the right behavior as a young citizen of the Soviet Union.  Besides that the organization offered a lot of cultural and sporting activities and all members were invited to attend publicly funded summer camps. In the life of a soviet citizen this period often played an important role growing up and it´s often remembered with a nostalgic view. One of the main symbols of Young Pioneers was the Young Pioneer's red neck scarf. In this painting we see two Young Pioneers. But the times seem to have changed and instead a typical soviet symbol we see a huge Mickey Mouse logo above them. The former Young Pioneer Organizations has turned into a Russian Version of the famous American Disney Club.
