A Russian Soul

Jury Gagarin, the first human in outer space, right after his successful flight. The confetti in the background symbolizes the delight and the meaning of this event for the soviet union: The first person in Space was a soviet citizen. And Gagarin? He is looking up and seeing the holy mother Maria, maybe thanking her for bringing him back home safely.
Officially Jury Gagarin was of course an Atheist. But today we know that he was quite religious person as a lot of soviet citizens during this time – but as most of these people he had to live out his religion in secret.
