The unknown Soldier in a dead cat’s grave

In my childhood my grandparents in Russia had a small holiday home. In a forest nearby there was a strange grave. It had no gravestone and nobody seemed to know who’s grave it was. Nevertheless, people always put plastic flowers on the grave and there was a rumor that this was the grave of a soldier who died there during World War II. Nobody knew his name so the local people just buried him in the forest. This story always animated my fantasies and I tried to imagine how this soldier might have looked like and how sad it was that his family would never know where he is buried. Much later I returned to this place. The grave was still there. By accident I met an old man near the grave. We began to talk and he told met that he is absolutely sure that there was no soldier. The grave belongs to a local cat which died some years ago and the children of the family decided that their beloved cat needed a proper grave. Until this day I am not sure who is buried in this grave but in my childhood memory it will always be the unknown soldier.
